Barcelona are reportedly looking elsewhere for a Xavi successor after discovering how 'complicated' it would be to sign Brighton's Roberto De Zerbi.

Seagulls head coach De Zerbi has been linked with the Catalan side but a report in Spanish publication Sport says it will not be easy to recruit him. Therefore, the Blaugrana's search to replace Xavi, who is stepping down from the role this summer, is likely to continue.

The report states Barca are likely to be unwilling to pay De Zerbi's exit clause, which is approximately €15 million (£12.8m), due to the club's precarious finances. Moreover, Liverpool – who are keen to find a replacement for outgoing manager Jurgen Klopp – are keeping tabs on the Italian and if they were to sign the former Sassuolo boss they would need to act soon.

De Zerbi – who joined Brighton in September 2022, led them to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League last season and has guided them to the last 16 of the Europa League this term – has a contract that runs until 2026 at the Amex.
