After the joy of last Saturday it’s going to take a 26-0 win and every Spurs supporter each winning their own personal lottery jackpot to match the euphoria of the comeback win at the Emirates. And unless you live in a warzone or somewhere worse – like Croydon – and you need to battle your way to the shops, even that fails to match the fighting spirit which made victory over Arsenal so satisfying.
The game with Werder Bremen probably won’t be able to provide the same levels of ecstasy experienced in the North London Derby, but progress to the next phase of the Champions League would be adequate compensation. Victory over the Bundesliga club won’t do it on its own, but combined with the right result at the San Siro, Tottenham fans can start clearing their diaries for early spring.
Bremen showed their fondness for attacking play when the two teams met to kick off their Champions League proper campaigns and with victory now essential for the German side to maintain their faint hopes of reaching the knockout phase or even the consolation of a Europa League berth, those instincts are unlikely to have been dimmed since. Their desire for all three points may well play perfectly into the hands of their hosts who’ve made hay from striking on the counter attack in recent weeks.

If Saturday wasn’t already enjoyable enough for Spurs fans, the return of Jermain Defoe added a few bonus rays to an already beaming sun. His contribution helped turn the game around and although he had to settle for playing a part in defeating their local rivals, it doesn’t look like he’ll have to wait long to get back to his goalscoring ways. He’s 9/2 to score the 1st goal of this match and with an open game almost guaranteed, it may not stop there. Although you can never come out and say Werder Bremen won’t be trying, we will hint that they may be happy enough with the taking part rather than the winning. Even with a win, they’ll still more than likely be propping up the table and highly unlikely to make progress. As they’re surprisingly close to the Bundesliga relegation battle, they may not care too much about the distraction of a Europa League place. The scorecast of Defoe to score 1st and Tottenham to win 4-0 @ 55/1 doesn’t sound completely ridiculous.
A Correct Score bet may be tricky on this occasion, but that’s where the Winning Margin option comes in handy. Tottenham to win by exactly 3 goals at 6/1 covers several possibilities – 3-0, 4-1, 5-2, 15-12 – as does the Tottenham to win by 4 or more goals selection @ 7/1 – 4-0, 5-1, 5-0, 87-3.
