Snow and rain has impacted large parts of the UK and made travel to and from Liverpool difficult. Liverpool Lime Street station has cancelled trains until midday and John Lennon Airport has closed its runway. A meeting was held at 9am to assess the safety of the pitch and the game is still scheduled to go ahead as planned. However, a final decision over the postponement of the fixture has been deferred until noon which will then reassess the safety of the pitch and for fans getting to and leaving Anfield.

Posting on X, Liverpool said: "A safety meeting was held this morning to assess the weather and travel conditions for today’s fixture against Manchester United at Anfield.
"At this stage the match is planned to go ahead as normal and every effort is being made to get the game on. A further safety meeting will take place again at midday to assess the latest conditions. We will update supporters just as soon as we can. Please take extra care out there, Reds."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Poor weather has already resulted in numerous games being postponed in the lower divisions of English football and even disrupted the Reds’ game against Everton earlier this season. The final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park will likely be played next month but no date has been confirmed. Should Sunday’s game with United also be postponed, Liverpool will again have to find a midweek slot to play the game.

A decision on Sunday’s game will be made at noon and then, if all is fine to continue, Liverpool will host Manchester United at Anfield hoping to go eight points clear at the top with a game in hand. Meanwhile, United are looking over their shoulder with Ruben Amorim not ruling out a relegation battle.
