There are not many things worse than suffering an injury in pre-season.
During that time, the games are usually low-paced and are supposed to be played in a more relaxed atmosphere. But sometimes that can’t guarantee the complete absence of injuries.
Unfortunately for Liverpool and Nathaniel Clyne, the worst happened in the Reds’ match against Borussia Dortmund in Notre Dame.
The 28-year-old defender is now facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining an “anterior cruciate ligament injury”, as the club has already officially confirmed.
Clyne himself posted an update on Instagram following his immediate surgery. As it seems, the procedure went well and the right-back can now start his road to recovery.
Liverpool also said that despite the recovery process most likely taking a very long time, the sheer nature of the specific injury should, in theory, allow Clyne a straightforward rehabilitation process.
Last season, Clyne played a total of 20 games for the Reds in all competitions and one in the Premier League 2, before spending the second half of the campaign on loan at Bournemouth. He managed to get one assist in the top-flight for the Merseyside club under his belt in the process.
