Marcus Bent has exclusively told Football FanCast that the signing of Josh King proved a strange one by Everton.
King made the switch to Goodison Park on Deadline Day on a short-term contract back in January to provide competition for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who was the Toffees only recognised frontman.
He hadn’t scored a single league goal for Bournemouth during prior to his move following a summer of uncertainty but was a proven predator in the Premier League for the Cherries – racking up 48 goals in five seasons.
However, that obviously didn’t convince Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti. Whilst he was signed under the Italian’s guidance, he didn’t fancy the Canadian striker from minute one.
And following King’s release last month, his record at Everton ended with zero goals in just 11 substitute appearances.
All but three of those outings were less than 20 minutes, whilst the longest King spent on the pitch was when he played the final 34 minutes against Fulham.
Bent exclusively told Football FanCast:
“I’ll read what Everton said to me. It’s a strange one.
‘They signed him on a six-month contract and didn’t give him a chance – he never started a single game, that’s weird if you’ve only got someone for six months, Ancelotti clearly didn’t fancy him.’
“It happens in football, it’s a harsh world. Sometimes you’re just not fancied.”
