Vincent Kompany slammed his Bayern Munich players after their surprise collapse against Bochum following Joao Palhinha's red card.

Bayern appeared to be cruising toward victory in the first half, with Raphael Guerriero scoring two goals in the opening half-hour. Serge Gnabry had an opportunity to extend their lead but missed a penalty, which came back to haunt them later in the match.

However, the tide turned in the 31st minute when Jakov Medic pulled one back for Bochum, and things began to unravel for Bayern. The situation worsened just before the break, as Palhinha received a red card three minutes before half-time for a rash challenge on Giorgos Masouras, which ultimately paved the way for Bochum's second-half comeback. Ibrahima Sissoko and Matu Bero got their names on the scoresheet in the second half, securing an unexpected victory for the 16th-placed side.

WHAT KOMPANY SAID

After the match, a visibly frustrated Kompany lashed out at his players and insisted that there would be no excuses for the loss.

"Congratulations to VfL. It's very unpleasant for us," he told reporters. "We started well, but we must never get a red card. But even with 10 men we have to win this game or at least not lose. That didn't happen today. We are not looking for excuses or apologies, we lost.

"We will analyse it and must take responsibility for it. It is important that we concentrate on the reaction. Even with 10 men, we must have the ambition to win the game or at least not to lose. We did not manage that. Bochum deserves to feel that they have won, I know how much energy it takes to do that. For us, it is now about the next game.”

Kompany was unwavering in his assessment of the red card handed to Palhinha, saying that there was no reason to discuss the incident further.

"It was a red card. It's an unnecessary discussion," he said. "We got a red card, we lost. We don't need to talk so much. We lost and we have to react on the pitch now. Of course we're angry. The reaction to that is important now."
