Leeds extended their winning run to seven games with victory over Hull but a pivotal moment with ten minutes remaining could have transformed the outcome of the match.
A Hull corner would have been headed home but for a combination of a save from Kiko Casilla and a block from Patrick Bamford, whose decisive touch got the ball out of danger and put his side on the counter-attack.
The striker’s efforts didn’t stop there, however, and he showed amazing desire to get into the box to reach Mateusz Klich’s low cross, only to unluckily hit the post – which then allowed Ezgjan Alioski to score the rebound and seal all three points.
It is not the first time Leeds’ pace and energy has allowed them to break away late on and score, with a save from Casilla also starting off a similar move at Reading, and the Spaniard has rightly been praised for his role.
It was quite an extraordinary goal and a brilliant effort from those who contributed to the goal. Klich carried the ball for some distance and Alioski showed why he’s now a permanent fixture in the side.
His goals are proving vital and he was in the right place in the right time to follow up Bamford’s effort, and Leeds’ clinical nature has impressed some.
Most of the praise is going towards Bamford, however, despite him missing what was actually a great chance.
In his defence, he had run about 90 metres and didn’t break stride as he hit the ball, so one supporter’s assessment that he was simply unlucky is a fair view.
Leeds will need the 26-year-old to show that level of commitment and energy throughout the remainder of the season if they are to continue producing winning results, and for Casilla to carry on making outstanding saves.
Bamford will need to maintain his impressive displays as according to Phil Hay finding a replacement for Eddie Nketiah could prove tricky, and his future is still up in the air at this point.
