Heading into the match at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, the Portuguese midfielder who Manchester United fans would no doubt have been dying to see, was Bruno Fernandes.
The 25-year-old joined in the closing stages of the January transfer window, arriving for £47m. Unfortunately for him, he couldn’t inspire the Red Devils to a victory over Wolves, and instead, he was arguably outshone by one of his international compatriots: Ruben Neves.
The Molineux side’s midfield maestro ran the show, and his Sofascore match rating of 7.7 comfortably eclipsed what Fernandes was awarded (6.8). Neves completed seven of his nine attempted long balls (including one sumptuous outside-the-foot pass to Raul Jimenez in the first-half), made three successful dribbles, and had an 82% pass accuracy.

And after seeing his performance, United fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the midfielder, who Goal reported was a target for them in the January window.
Some United fans urged the club to bring him to Old Trafford, with one supporter in particular insisting he should be their “no.1 target for midfield in the summer”.
Another couple of fans of the Manchester side brought Neves’ name into the conversation with some of their current players, with one supporter claiming he would be the “perfect Pogba replacement.”
Neves produced a midfield masterclass against the Red Devils, and it is little surprise to see many United fans wax lyrical about his performance.
In a game where the spotlight would have firmly been on the Manchester side’s new £47m signing, Neves made sure the Old Trafford faithful knew what he is capable of.
